Eiren Jacobson

Eiren Jacobson began working for Bio-Waves in the spring of 2011. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Biology from Columbia University in 2010 and wrote a senior thesis examining movement of humpback whale song between Gabon and Madagascar over a four-year period. After graduation, Eiren moved to California to work at the NOAA Southwest Fisheries Science Center on a project to develop automated acoustic detection and classification methods for beaked whales. At Bio-Waves, Eiren analyzes dolphin whistles from Guam and Hawaii that will be incorporated into the Real-time Odontocete Call Classification Algorithm (ROCCA) software and conducts literature reviews for projects and proposals. Eiren has participated in cetacean studies from small boats and large ships and enjoys spending time at sea. In the future she plans to pursue a PhD using passive acoustics as a tool for assessing the abundance, distribution, and habitat use of cetaceans.
